Sediment Remediation

IAI has industry-leading experience in the field of contaminated sediment remediation, particularly in the Great Lakes basin.  As the leading contractor for the installation and operation of geotextile tubes, IAI has been responsible for dewatering more than 3.7 million cubic yards of contaminated sediment in geotextile tubes.

We have successfully completed high profile, high production sediment cleanup projects requiring stacking tubes up to ten layers over lay-down areas as large as 50 acres, and at dredge production rates as high as 10,000 cubic yards per day.  We have also executed projects in small, restrictive urban areas, requiring a dewatering and removal cycle to allow sufficient space for dredged sediments – while dredging continued, uninterrupted.

Sediment Remediation Services

IAI has self-performed many aspects of contaminated sediment cleanup projects, including:

  • Hydraulic dredging
  • Mechanical dredging
  • Hydrographic surveying
  • Sediment dewatering
  • On-site wastewater treatment
  • General contracting
  • Design engineering
  • Construction

Sediment Contaminants of Concern

IAI has handled sediments with contaminants such as:

  • Poly chlorinated biphenyls (PCBs)
  • Lead (Pb)
  • Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)
  • Coal tar
  • Creosote
  • Radionuclides
  • Semi volatile organic compounds (SVOCs)
  • Pesticides
  • Arsenic (As)
  • Mercury (Hg)
  • Other metals
