Industrial Dredging Water Treatment

March 4, 2015 by IAI

IAI provided water treatment services for this mechanical dredging project. The overall project involved excavating impacted sediments from service water ditches at an industrial facility in Michigan. IAI was responsible for treating after the remaining water after the ditches were drained to within one foot of the sediment, as well as any water that collected in excavation areas and discharging the treated water under the facility’s existing NPDES permit.

IAI utilized our mobile water treatment system for this project, which is a treatment plant housed in two, 52 feet long enclosed trailers. The standard system was slightly modified for this project to provide oil removal treatment, provide the necessary flow capacity, and prevent freeze ups in the winter months.

Frac tanks for storage and flow equalization, inclined plate separators (lamella clarifiers) to remove suspended solids, oil-water separators and organo clay filters to remove oil, sand filters and bag filters to remove suspended and colloidal solids, and granular activated carbon (GAC) vessels to remove dissolved organic compounds, were all utilized in the treatment system.

Work continued through December in Michigan, requiring that the treatment trailers, frac tanks, oil water separator, and external bag filter housings be heated and protected from the weather. IAI’ mobile water treatment system successfully treated a total of 1.5 million gallons of water during the performance of this project.
